From a very early age the hand of the Lord has been evident upon the life of
Elder Lafayette Embry. His mother, Henrietta Embry, often tells the story of how one evening in church, at about the
age of 7yrs., while attending a service conducted by his pastor, Bishop Perry Thomas, he looked up to her and said "I
want the Holy Ghost". She says she brushed off the statement, but before she knew it the Holy Ghost had fallen
upon him. Upon the move of his family from Alabama to Detroit, he became a member of what was known at the time
as "Orleans Street" Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, (now known as Solomon's Temple), Under the leadership of Bishop William
L. Bonner. He held many positions in the church. He was very active in the youth department, and was director of the
Joy Bells choir for a number of years. Not only was he active on the local level, but also on the state and national
level as well. He served as Armor Bearers Young Peoples Union president for the state of Michigan, and
the national Youth Congress president for the entire Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Pastor Embry often speaks
of three men; The Late Bishop Perry Thomas, The Late Bishop Floyd Mitchell, and Bishop Wm. L. Bonner, who were great influences
in his early ministry and helped to develop him into the man of God he is today.
In 1987 the Lord called Elder Embry to establish the Good News Bible Church.
A body of believers not bound by tradition, but able to appreciate its rich foundation in the Pentecostal/Apostolic
church . Pastor Embry encourages parishioners to seek the Lord and develop an intimate personal relationship
with Jesus.
In 1971 Pastor Embry married the former Ms. Frances Linnell Wiley. To
this union were born three sons; Damon Lafayette, Desmon Lyonell, and Derrick Lavar. God has continued to bless and
expand this family with the addition of three daughter-in-laws; Moya, Tasha, and Carmen, as well as eight grandchildren:
Shayla, Deja, DeAndre,Devin, Jasmine, Darius, Da-yona and Derrick Junior.
